The Great Decoupage Tear of 2006 involved me appropriating several old jewlery boxes from my Great Aunt Rose, which were full of old costume jewelry and actually had to be sprayed with lysol and left in the sun before I would touch them. Fortunately or unfortunately, I did not have the foresight to take "before pictures" before I took my first foray into the world of decoupage! I did three boxes in total.
Here are the after photos:
My bracelets currently live in this box, which I spray-painted black and then affixed magazine clippings to the inside and outside. The above-photo is of the inside.
I cut cut out the song lyrics to the Dixie Chicks "Cowboy Take Me Away" to go around the side.
The top of the box is graced with some pretty fabulous tall boots along with the lyrics from Shania Twain's "Whose Bed Have your Boots Been Under?"
This one holds hair barettes. I spray painted this one, including the hardware, mettalic copper. The inside is kind of an homage to denim.
Here is the outside of box #2--I think its my favorite because its simple and graphic.
And here is box #3, which was actually the first one in time that I finished. It is spray painted basic black, and the mirror in it was totally destroyed so I decoupaged that surface with the rose garden photo.
And lastly, here is the top of the third box. There really isn't any deeper meaning or thought that went into this one. (Or any of them for that matter) Its just purdy.
Have you guys ever gone on a decoupage tear, or any other kind of tear for that matter? I know a lot of people think decoupage is soooooo 1970s, along with macrame, but I think it can be updated (macrame too!). Comment if you have ever been obsessed with something for a short period of time and then put it down for years! (or is it just me??)

I've never heard someone describe going on a frenzy of some sort as a "tear" - is that a Charlotte word? ;p But I definitely remember your decoupage jewelry boxes. I thought I remembered seeing them in your dorm room senior year of college but I guess I'm wrong if it was 2006.
You're checking many things off your to-do list before the housewarming party - good work! Can't wait to see you in 2 weeks!
Lesley I think you are right...I know i did the 2 black boxes before the copper one, but to tell you the truth I just know I did it a long time ago! It might have been 2002.
As for the word "tear" I think its something old people said when I grew up...kind of like how i call a vacuum a sweeper...
Love the word "tear" - it's great for crafting! :D
